Another question to ask is whether they have IAPDA certified debt arbitrators who are trained in the laws of debt settlement.  This makes a difference if your case were to go to arbitration.

If you are considering a settlement company, it can be a good idea to see if they also offer education and assistance on bankruptcy, since that may be one of the options open to you.  This would mean that you won’t have to hire a separate attorney or person to represent you should things head in that direction.

Cost is always of major importance, as you are already deep in debt.  You want to choose a settlement company that charges fees that fit within your actual budget.  Exorbitant fees do not mean better service when working to get rid of credit card debt legally. You may also want to see if they have a guarantee to either not charge you or to return fees if a settlement cannot be reached. If you find a company that is accredited and has low fees, then you can make a wise choice.
