Debt Of Honor Movie Tom Clancy

Can I start reading the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan books with Debt of Honor?

I’ve seen all the movies, and just rewatched Clear and Present Danger a couple of days ago. It reminded me how much I like the character but I want to start with Debt of Honor. Will I be lost if I do this? Think I can make it through and enjoy it?

If you are planning on reading them all, then I would recommend reading them in the order they were written, starting with The Hunt for Red October. Some people like to read them in timeline chronological order, but I think the books that may take place earlier in Jack Ryan’s life/career but that were actually written after others that might take place later might confuse you. Even if you don’t know the back story of say Ryan’s helicopter crash when he was in the Marines, you learn enough about it in Red October to explain his fear of flying. You learn more about it in other books, like Patriot Games and later books and when you finally get the story that takes place about that time, that book will make more sense than if you started there and followed the timeline. This might not seem to make sense, but I prefer reading out of chronology books in the order they were written, because in the long run, they will actually make more sense.

Besides, by reading the earlier books, you see how Jack’s career brings him up the ladder to the position he is in during Clear and Present Danger and through Debt of Honor.
