How Media Affects Consumers

It has been proved that media is one of the primary reason for causing eating disorders among children. The unhealthy models on the cover of the magazine give a very wrong impression among young consumers. They all feel that is the only look for people. They do not eat properly. Growling kids need proper balanced diet to stay healthy.

Young consumers try to follow diets and neglect food which is much needed for their growing bodies. When they starve, they are much likely to become anorexic. This kind of behavior is seen among kids in the age between 13 and 16. Plus they use excess amount of makeup which ruins the skin. Kids nowadays try to grow up soon. They do not realize that they will never regain their childhood once it passes by. They have forever to be old but very less time to be a kid. Kids today are exposed to a lot of things through the media and the internet. Even young women are affected by the media. The media gives an outer look of about how to live your life and how to look. But it is not humanely possible to look like a supermodel without the different operation and the unhealthy diet. The media should portray good role models and good content which should give positive impact among consumers.

There are various other problems due to media. Young girls want to use hair extensions and wear rich make ups. These hair extensions are the way to go easily bald. When you lose your hair it is not possible to get them back. The only solution is to go for hair transplantation. It is not necessary. There are other ways to style your hair. Never resort to hair extension. Make up at young age ruins your skin for a life time.

I have known a lot of young girls who skipped meals to stay healthy. One of the girls was not able to eat after few months. It took a lot of effort to get back to the normal state. Her stomach has shrunk in order to survive with the less amount of food. Then she realized the importance of food. There was no need to go through such trauma. She was already very thin and pretty. But anorexia will cause such fear among themselves that they feel they are not thin enough.

The media is also exposing what celebrities wear and carry. This makes the consumers want to own things. Not everyone can afford expensive clothes and accessories. But the media convinces consumers that they have to have. This leads to debt. Consumers are turned into shopaholics. They swipe their cards to get things that they cannot afford. When they do not pay their bills on time they end up paying more interest. The debt in the cards keeps piling up. One fine day they know that they realize their mistake but it is too late. They are already bankrupt.

There was an episode in Oprah where she showed a number of family who were in debts. The mother of two daughters was helpless. The daughters need to go shopping every week. They did not understand the seriousness of the situation. They forced the mother to take them shopping and promised to stay on budget. But eventually they shopped thrice the amount they promised to stick on to. That is what media is doing to kids right now.

Advertisements are made to brainwash the consumers. The consumers feel that they have to own the particular product after seeing a particular commercial. The so-called celebrities who are supposed to be role models for the kids make the situation even worse. They wear million dollar outfits and pose to the camera. Kids nowadays feel that is the only way to lead life. Everyone wants to become an actor or a model. People do not seek for actual careers. The quick way to become rich and fabulous is by modeling and acting. The people who actually make into the business are less than 1% of the total population but they make into the news 80% of the time.

So media should try and be a positive role model to the kids. Kids are going to rule our world in another 20 years. Exposure to such negative lifestyle is going to degenerate our future. Monitor your kids and teach them good values in life. Balanced diet and basic discipline is a must when you are growing up. Healthy people are needed to make a healthy world.
