United States National Debt

Where is the United States Heading?

Is there something more going on inside the government? This is a strong question that we all need to ask ourselves now. The government is failing us all as a people, and we are doing nothing about it. You may ask how, and I have only questions myself, but if we were to look at all the changes together that we have went through lately then we might all start finding our answer.

From the top, we all know that the government and the president have spent around a trillion dollars, and when you think of this number you should realize that that is enough to give every adult in the United States, working or not, about $5,000. As opposed to how the stimulus has helped you, how could you have spent that money? In truth, there is no wrong answer and you could spend that money in any manner that you wanted. All money that is spent helps to stimulate the economy, and as we all know, the economy is us. Car payments, house payments, bills, and entertainment, if money is flowing the economy is thriving. If the economy is thriving we are thriving. Yet, against all logic, the government spent millions to give money to banks and car manufacturers. These people have money already and if they spent it in the wrong manner then why do we have to pay them to get them out of trouble? When was the last time a bank payed your bills? It is an uneven trade-off.

Again I have to ask are the wars helping or hurting us? We know that you can’t change someone who doesn’t want to change no matter how hard you try. So why is the government trying against all odds to change entire nations who don’t even want our help. To date, the government has spent almost a trillion dollars on the wars. They spend about $2,000 per second. That equals up to another $5,000 in every adult US citizens pocket. Iraq and Afghanistan want us out, and we also want to be out, but the government would rather spend our money to butt their heads up against a wall.

To whoever hasn’t heard some of the things that the stimulus package has been spent on, let me relay some information on that subject to you. $120 billion was supposed to go to schools to prevent cutbacks and to provide further funding, yet Illinois is going to cut preschool and kindergarten from their school curriculum, and with the US being in the bottom three in regards to the level of education amongst 1st world nations, I think that we may be headed in a terrible direction. $54 billion were spent to modernize and streamline energy systems and reduce waste, yet in Kentucky, in addition to paying extra money in electricity bills, they refuse to remove trees from power lines, which caused the major blackout earlier this year and caused citizens to lose power for up to 7 weeks. I could go on, but it gets monotonous.

Now we hear about the health-care reform, and I have to be skeptical. In countries we consider to be below our status, such as Cuba, they have free health-care systems, yet we, the greatest world power, can have the majority of our citizens unable to afford any health-care whatsoever. We are having to deal with illness and injury rather than be treated.

To bring this all together; we are losing jobs left and right and what money we payed to the government is being given to the rich, we are losing education values and falling further and further into ignorance, and we are all falling into poor health. Living in this country is viewed as a blessing by people all over the world, and we should have standards that keep it that way. We were built on principles that no lawmaker or leader is acknowledging yet we are not doing anything to change this. This once-great nation was founded on the right of the people, and we now have no voice. We are falling into a hole that we might not be able to come back from as the same nation.

History has shown us that when nations come to this point they have to change, and there are only three options. First, we could eventually be forced into a militarized government in which the government regulates everything. This would fix the problem but we would have no rights, and this nation was founded to prevent that outcome. Second, another nation could take us over, then we would be right where we were about 250 years ago. I know that no one here wants this outcome. The only other way to fix these problems is for the people to stand up and take power back from a government that no longer has our best interests at heart. The constitution itself states that from time to time we must cleanse the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants.

The real question is which solution are you in favor of? The government is making its move and we should do the same. This nation which we live in today is not the same nation that the world once looked to for hope. We now need hope more than ever, and only we can help ourselves because there are much more important things for us to worry about than our own government. Family, religion, and liberty are among my top concerns. For what would you fight to protect?
